Thermostatic water bath unit is an instrument that uses electric power to heat water as the heat-transfer medium. Equipped with temperature sensors and a temperature controller, it precisely and stably keeps the liquid medium at the preset temperature value.

This thermostatic water baths are widely adopted in experiments and testing requiring precise temperature control. In biochemical tests, they are routinely employed for cell culture, protein precipitation and incubation of enzymatic reactions. For culture medium preparation, the equipment is used to melt agar and LB medium as well as thaw reagents and samples, preventing activity degradation caused by excessive heat. In food inspection, it facilitates sample pre-treatment including pre-processing for fat determination and thermal preservation during acid-base hydrolysis. Additionally, it can perform distillation, drying, concentration and warm incubation of chemical reagents and biological products.

1.Water Addition Requirements

Always fill with distilled water first until the water level covers the electric heating tubes. Avoid insufficient water (to prevent dry burning) or overfilling (to stop overflow during boiling).

2.Regular Water Replacement

Replace water every two weeks to curb microbial growth and limescale buildup; strict water quality control is mandatory for cell laboratories.

3.Temperature Calibration

Periodically calibrate actual temperature with a standalone thermometer, as displayed readings may deviate from the core temperature of samples.

4.Separated Usage by Application

For cell labs, use separate water baths for medium preheating and cell thawing to prevent cross-contamination.

5.Shutdown Protocol

Cover the lid and cut off power after use to reduce water evaporation and microbial contamination.

1.Draining & Preliminary Cleaning

Cut off power and let the unit cool down after operation. Open the drain valve to fully empty water. Brush the inner tank lightly to remove coarse debris, then wipe internal and external surfaces with a soft lint-free cloth.

2.Routine Disinfection

Prepare disinfectant solution with either 84 disinfectant or benzalkonium bromide for weekly soaking of no less than 20 minutes. Alternate between the two disinfectants regularly to prevent microbial resistance.

3.Aseptic Rinsing

After disinfection, rinse the inner chamber and test tube rack 1 to 2 times with purified water or freshly prepared sterile water to eliminate residual disinfectant that could compromise subsequent experiments.

4.Water Replacement & Maintenance

Only refill with distilled or deionized water; tap water is prohibited. Maintain water level above heating tubes but below the overflow outlet. A small amount of bacteriostatic agent such as benzalkonium bromide may be added to prolong water service life.

5.Descaling Treatment

Descale monthly by soaking with 10% citric acid solution, followed by thorough flushing to prevent limescale accumulation on heating tubes which impairs temperature control accuracy.

6.Drying & Record-Keeping

Air-dry naturally or wipe dry with a clean soft cloth post-cleaning. Complete equipment log, documenting dates of latest disinfection and water change.
