The Bench-top Dual-Purpose Beer Colorimeter is designed to measure two key color parameters: beer color in EBC units and general chromaticity in PCU units. Beer color is an important quality indicator that reflects raw materials, brewing process, and aging degree. The main ingredients – wheat malt, barley malt, and hops – undergo liquefaction, saccharification, and liquid fermentation, during which color‑related substances are influenced by pigment extraction and formation conditions. Maltose syrup, a viscous high‑concentration sugar solution made from sugar water, sugarcane juice, fruit juice or other plant juices, is often added to accelerate fermentation and enhance flavor.

To measure beer color accurately, the instrument adopts the photoelectric colorimetric principle, replacing traditional visual colorimetry. This eliminates human errors and significantly improves measurement resolution. Instead of relying on a person's eye – which varies between operators – the device uses a built‑in microcomputer and photoelectric detection. You place the sample (beer or water) into a cuvette, insert it into the meter, and the instrument automatically calculates the color value, displaying the result on a digital screen.
